Cambodia Surpasses US$170 Million in Milled Rice Exports in First Four Months

PHNOM PENH, April 9, 2024 – Cambodia has exported 248,491 tonnes of milled rice to international markets, earning over US$170 million in revenue during the first four months of 2024, according to a report from the Cambodia Rice Federation received by AKP on May 8.

The report highlights that Cambodian rice reached 60 countries and regions worldwide, facilitated by 48 exporters. The major markets for this period included the European Union, China and its Autonomous Regions, and ASEAN member countries.

The varieties of rice exported were diverse, encompassing fragrant rice, long grain white rice, parboiled rice, and organic rice, among others. This variety underscores Cambodia’s ability to cater to a wide range of international tastes and preferences.

Additionally, the country saw significant revenue from border-traded paddy rice, amounting to more than US$693 million from approximately 2.42 million tonnes traded during the same period.

Reflecting on the previous year, 2023 saw Cambodia exporting over 656,000 tonnes of milled rice, valued at US$466 million. This represented a 3 percent increase in volume and a 13 percent increase in value compared to 2022.

Looking forward, the Cambodia Rice Federation has ambitious plans to boost exports, aiming to reach at least one million tonnes of milled rice by 2025, signaling a strong commitment to enhancing Cambodia’s position in the global rice market.
